Benjamin Bevan won a scholarship to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and then attended the Guildhall Opera Course after which he appeared in the Glyndebourne Festival Opera Chorus.
Benjamin Bevan made his international début as a bass at Lausanne Opera as Alidoro La Cenerentola which was broadcast across Europe.
He made his UK début at Scottish Opera as Marcello La Bohème followed by return invitations to sing Fleville and Fouquier-Tinville Andrea Chenier under the baton of Sir Richard Armstrong, and Morales in Carmen.
Benjamin Bevan’s operatic repertoire also includes Belcore L’elisir d’amore, Tonio I Pagliacci, Alfio Cavalleria Rusticana, Count Almaviva The Marriage of Figaro, Speaker The Magic Flute, Vicar Albert Herring, Aeneas Dido and Aeneas, Peter Hänsel und Gretel, The Animal Tamer and The Acrobat Lulu, Pacheco Ines de Castro, Barelli The Aspern Papers (Dominic Argento) in the UK premiere at GSMD.
Benjamin Bevan has a busy concert career. He has all the major works in his repertoire. Highlights include The Dream of Gerontius at Snape Maltings, the Monteverdi Vespers with the New London Consort under Philip Pickett at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, Bach St John Passion with the Irish Chamber Orchestra under Stephen Layton, Handel Messiah with The Irish Baroque Orchestra, Bach Christmas Oratorio in Monaco and Nice with Errol Girdlestone and Carmina Burana with the BBC Concert Orchestra under Andrew Nethsingha.
He made his début at London’s Wigmore Hall in songs by Strauss and Poulenc accompanied by Paul Plummer. He has also sung recitals at Lausanne Opera House and his first Winterreise at Goodnestone Festival which was featured on BBC Radio 3’s ‘In Tune’.
Benjamin Bevan’s recent engagements include two performances of Bach Cantatas in Australia at the Perth International Festival which were broadcast live by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. In the UK he was a soloist in the UK premiere of a new Mass by John Taverner at The Brighton Festival.
Benjamin Bevan recently sang Riccardo I Puritani and appeared as Lescaut in Massenet’s Manon and Marcello in La Bohème at Scottish Opera under the baton of Francesco Corti. In 2011 he will sing the role of Pontius Pilate in a new staging of Bach’s St John Passion for Nationale Reisopera.
